Pearl Street Residence

LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA

The project is the restoration and expansion of Laguna Beach’s oldest home. Construction of the original oceanfront home was 1883. Over the next century the home stayed largely the same but saw its porch enclosed and a poor 300 sq. ft. addition constructed in the 1970’s. Blakemore Architects in association with PCR Architectural Historians extensively researched the home and devised a scheme to restore the original cottage, demolish the poor additions, and create a new home suitable for today’s living style.

The second phase of the project was the addition of a new 3 bedroom 2 bath second residence on the R2 zoned property. We choose to use an early 20th century shingle bungalow style to compliment the original historic structure while still having its own identity. The project required numerous approvals and extensive public review and comment periods. The project was approved by both the Laguna Beach Heritage Committee and the Laguna Beach Design Review Board.
